Miscellaneous

This page is reserved for miscellaneous examples of writing which support the points made in the self assessment essay (in conjunction with the technical description and scientific controversy papers).

Abstract: This is a post from a course discussion board, along with a comment and a comment I made in response to that comment, as well as the post itself. The posts for this particular discussion board were concerned with sharing a peer-reviewed piece of scientific writing, and the task was to explain its relevance to the topic of the pandemic. This post in particular was about an article that proposed methods for the safe and effective disposal of materials that came into contact with the coronavirus. My comment displays how easily I was able to connect to the subject matter by drawing on the lack of proper waste categorization derived from being perceptive to the world around me, and my news awareness of a novel method to reuse things like masks.

Abstract: This is another post from a course discussion board where the task was to present a piece of science journalism relating to COVID-19, and discuss why it is relevant or interesting with regards to my disciplinary perspective as a STEM major. I decided to share an article from the very start of the pandemic which showcases simulations of different scenarios and proportions of sick people over time to demonstrate which strategies work best for “flattening the curve.” I discussed the shortcomings of the modeling contained in the paper by giving examples of phenomena not accounted for. This piece of writing is a prime example where I believe I got to the point way too quick.

Abstract: These redacted series of text messages show how proactive and collaborative I was in the writing and planning process for the research paper (not included). You can see that I really made an effort to consolidate our thesis arguments and analysis, and I did it in a civil and respectable manner, even though there were times where I disagreed with my groupmates’ decisions. I also proposed a section in the paper which would work well with one of my groupmate’s background and experience.
